The Queen's English!
For the longest time i could not understand why i was unable to alter the colour of my signature. I then realised, with no small amount of cogitation - that whilst my country had invented the English Language, it was you american chappies that had invented the BBcode language.
oh how i chortled as i realised my error was due to my technically correct spelling of the word 'colour', as opposed to the grammatically incorrect, but phoenetically enscribed version: 'color'.
(ps: perhaps if my country had taught me to read i would have seen this in the BBcode instruction manual!-DOH!)

Each area has its own flavor/flavour of English as she is spoken.
Queen's English can mean either English as spoken by the Queen of England or as spoken in Queens, New York !!!

Intercultural humor, sarcasim, and goodwill can cause misunderstandings under diplomatic PROTOCOL. I remember visiting India over 25 yrs. ago and told showing the bottom of one's shoe is taboo. Even the big trucks had a shoe picture on their front license plate to \"get out of my way\" as they drove on the LEFT side of the road.
seriously - i bear no ill will to any man (well i might be lying there!) and i am definately not interested in running down other peoples creeds or cultures (except limeys, cowboys and 'straylians) - i was just having a playful jab at the difference in spelling of the word colour = so if anyone wants to lock this thread if it gets to near the bone that's cool with me.
anyway - thanks to Bill Gates i have to accept that American english is probably now the worlds 'default' language.

Ok, so you English ran out of room in your prisons and came over here. Well, so did a whole lot of legimate immigrants from Ireland and Scotland etc. Also, many European immigrants have come here. 99.99% of the population today (20 million) have decended from these immigrants.
