  • jt93,
first of all you need to tell me more about the drums. I am tired of playing to GNX's loops and want to do some different things  What is this acid you wrote about? Can you tell me more? (the full name- is it a software, where to buy etc?) Thanks!

The song flows, I liked the feel to it. While listening, I pictured slow motion moving people at the grasslands throwing themselves on the ground

    Pretty good feeling ...

Are you planning to build on this with a solo etc?
  • glad you liked it. i get a vibe of sitting beside a slow moving river :). and yea, i want to write some lyrics for it, glad you liked it. i get a vibe of sitting beside a slow moving river :). and yea, i want to write some lyrics for it, but i have not come up with anything that really sounds good and flows well with the music. one thing i considered was just making it instrumental and just playing a sweet lead over the whole, joe style. hehe, might tall ambitions though.

the drums and otg (other than guitar):
acid is a sony software package that functions as a file sequencer. for the drums on this song, i took a bunch of snare, tom, kick, etc samples and laid them all out to play how i wanted. it's very easy to get started with. check http://www.acidplanet.com/ and http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/products/acidfamily.asp for the info.

the real issue with using this kind of tool is the number of samples you have access to. i currently have a directory with 12,015 files @ 3.19 gigs of just samples. takes a bit of time to gather it all up. sony makes acid sound cds, as do lots of other ppl. or if you have access to some recording equipt, you can record your own samples. acid does have some recording ability built in, although i have never used it.

acid comes in serveral different flavors, the difference being (for the most part) what kind of samples are included in the deal. also, the not pro version of it have a limit on the total number of tracks. you can always render several tracks together and then reimport them and drop the source loops, but that gets old. list on the sony site is 374 for the pro ver.
  • great mellow feel to the whole thing, and the drums sound great.
  • I think leaving it as instrumental would work just fine...not everything needs to have lyrics in my opinion. A sweet solo on top would just make it a complete package.

Do you need a midi input controller for Acid? How do you play the samples, is it drag&drop style interface? I have Native Instruments Kontakt but I was intimated to play the drum beats note by note
  • you don't need anything except a mouse & kb. you just kinda of paint them in each track. i loaded up song 3 and took a screen shot so you could see. everything is zoomed way out. you can zoom in to where a 1/16th takes up the whole screen :)
