Getting rid of noise.....

Here's my question. The grounding in my house stinks, and I mean really bad. I even get hum in my humbuckers. I use the noisegate and it helps some, but I'm thinking about getting a power conditioiner. Will this help with the hum problems. The house I live in is very old and the wiring in the wall doesn't even have ground wire to the outlets. WOuld I be wasting money getting a power conditioner or will it be a good investment??

  • Let an electrician upgrade your panel or at least one of these or similar with a new receptacle to your studio. Power conditioners need a good panel ground via 3 wire 120V to safely clamp/shunt the surges/spikes. Adding another ground near your amp isn't code and would actually introduce a ground loop. So it may cost $500 plus $1000 for a service panel installed and at least one upgraded receptacle. I'm ready to do the same and have run a 45KW Kohler generator for concerts, festivals and churches. Electrical upgrades are one of the best returns in real estate and cost a small percentage in comparison.
