Please, Please Please Bababoey, Tal and others

I am a rank novice guitarist.

Its difficult for me to meet/speak to other Guitarists and check their playing techniques.

I then discovered freelicks.net, a site that has videos and tabs for some popular solos.

When I first saw what was needed to be done to play Sweet Child of Mine at http://www.freelicks.net/Sweet_child1.htm, I thought that was a level of magic that I would never attain.

Then one month of practicing later, it does not appear any more as an unattainable goal. The site showed me which finger to use to hit a particular note, how to get little quivers in a note, how to do pre-bends, what kind of speed was needed to play the song properly.

Its real hard to get that much of info from a Tab, but with a video, its \"Monkey see, Monkey do\"

You guys play some really great stuff, I really love those Blues and Santana that you post around here.

I would give my left youknowwhat to play like you guys.

Please Please Please consider posting slow videos and tabs and tutes on how to play the songs you post. That would help beginners like me no end. I promise to be your slave for the next seven rebirths if you do so !!

I am glad you like the stuff I post. I appreciate your comments. I am flattered you feel that way

Unfortunately, it would be difficult for me to make a video. I would have to borrow a camera, and not to mention, I am probably the only one left in this modern world with a dial up modem with the best data rate of 21.4Kbs. It would probably take me several hours just to upload a 3 minute video.

Besides, I am mostly a self taught musician. I have had maybe 3 months worth of lessons my entire life. The stuff I post here, either I learned the song by ear, or I am mostly improvising. I am sure I am not playing it the way Carlos is. There are several Santana concert films available on DVD. I have a couple of them. Why not learn from the real pro? I am so inspired to play after watching one of Santana's videos. Watching me play might get you by....but watching someone like him will really get the fire and spark you want to play and kick (_|_).

Playing good is more than just playing the notes right. It is feeling the notes and expressing it in your playing. It is making that ugly face when you are bending the notes. Carlos puts more feeling and expression in his playing than most players out there. Why not learn from the best instead of some amateur like me?

  • Web surf, everyone has to start sometime. Most of the guitar players I know, are very happy to share their knowledge with someone who is really interested in learning to play. I have developed a lifetime friendship with a guy I met at work 20 years ago while we worked the midnight shift together. It was one of those things like well I play guitar a little, hey me too, let's try to play sometime.

When we finally got together, I quickly realized, when he broke out with Chet's version of Yakety Ax, he was on a different musical plane than I was. But he sat there and taught me too play most of it. I asked him man how do you play like Chet and he said well you just have to figure out when he picks, strums or rolls. So try to get over that shyness and learn from the players you know and admire, if you are serious about playing they will help.

Bababoey, I guess it's just you and me with the dial up. You are not alone.
