Tokai ?

I am thinking of moving up from my Tele Guitar

I have the chance of buying 2-3 guitars from TOKAI in Japan at about 40% less than list.

Anybody here know more about TOKAI ? Comments on their quality ?

Any comments on Les Paul versus SG versus Strat to play Rock/Blues ?

Some say that Strats are good for rock but Eric Clapton plays blues on them. Some say Les Paul is great for Blues but Slash plays rock on them. I want to play both !

  • Tokai lawsuit strats from around 1980 are axcellent guitars, SpringySound, GoldStar or silverStar series, MIJ! Better then the original from the same era!
Don't know anything about new Tokai guitars.

Never heard of Tokai?? But if you want an awsome and very versital Japanese guitar get a Ibanez JS1000BP you will not be disapointed!! I know I'm sure not!!! And talk about versitality in your tone to play anything man I'm glad I bought one of these don't reckon I'll need any other guitar for a very long time!!!!
  • Peter of Sweden is correct about the Tokia guitars from 25 years ago or so. When you find them on ebay they still carry a higher price. But like Peter of Sweden, I don't know about today's Tokia.

Same with the Aria Les Paul style from the mid 70's. I bought a LP Custom copy in 1977, second hand, for $175, over the years I had a bone topnut installed, Les Paul machine heads, a tune-o-matic bridge, and a new 1/4 inch jack. Played very nice, sounded good, and was stolen in 1997, but for the twenty years I owned the guitar, I loved it.
  • Never heard of Tokai..
But I just bought a used American Tele and love it.. 8)
Fallen back in love with that Tele twang..
Hope you hang on to yours..
You might miss it later on down the line... :D

    P.S.
I know it's hard to believe coming from a Gibson guy..:lol:
  • Hi Tal, I'm shocked  but I figured you would come around sooner or later. :P he he he
