DigiTech on Wikipedia

Just discovered that someone started a page about DigiTech on Wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digitech

It seems very incomplete.

I am sure that many here would like to add to the Wiki article.

  • I added a para on Warp ( A feature that I think is just great !!!) :

Some of the later Multi-effect boxes from Digitech like the GNX4 and GNX3000 have an innovative concept called WARP(c). This patented feature allows an end user to create totally new Amplifier and Cabinet models by interpolating between any two existing models and immediately hearing the newly created model.

The current industry practice for creating new tones (called \"patches\") is limited to only allowing users to change the settings of each effect in the Multi-effect box. However the total number of Amplifiers, Cabinet and Effects modelled in a particular multi-effect box remain fixed, limiting the tonal variations possible.

WARP's ability to create new Amplifier and Cabinet models is a useful enhancement that adds an infinite repertoire of user created tones.

Thanks for helping see the bigger picture on this and many topics.

Here is also another locked thread so don't feel singled out. 8) http://www.guitarworkstation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=357
  • Thank's Zap, for your shrewd and technically pertinent comments.

Well yes, my posts are seen as GNX3000 bashing by some. However my intent is to edge DT to do even better.

My question has always been that if DT's patent and DT's hardware do foresee and allow some really great features, then

    A) Why are these features not made available in their S/W ?

    B) Why are they not assisting 3rd party developers to add features to their software ?

Why decide to climb Mount Everest, give up 10 steps from the summit, refuse to take any help, refuse to give any help to others, refuse to let others go past you ?

Oh yes, I do see that other thread that was locked. It needs to actually be deleted altogether. Those are totally assinine and uncool political comments on a Guitar web site.

My locked thread was only about GNX3000 technology on a GNX3000 site. Nobody could prove that my comments were technically incorrect. Nobody could say that I was being critical of DT or spreading false information.

Heck the subject of the thread was \"Six million tones for your GNX\" ie edging DT to go one step better by minor changes in their software.

I was not denigrating what has already been built. I was only showing the way to what could have been with slight changes to the user software.

    What a great comment!!!!

I know the answer,............ so do you ............... stop wasting your time web surf!!!!!!!!!!. They own the mountain....!!!!!!!!!!! you are just a helpful step in their climb

get the point and stop trying to move the mountain!!
and don't give them any more of your tech!
  • Kraft, I think you are right.

I wrote to DT, no reply
I posted at this forum, No reply

The best scenario I could think of was if they incorporated some of these ideas into Xedit. For example, would it not be great if the equalisers in the box were graphically controllable from Xedit. Almost all similar S/w I have seen to control MFX do have such functionality.

That would have been better than the converse : They share some information with me and I duplicate the instant download part of XEDIT in my s/w.

Sometimes it takes ages for big corps to make a decision. Does not mean that they dont want to help, but it takes ages I suppose to get clearance from some Suit to release me some measly data on their internal subroutines and <DATA> format.

So I take your advice and throw in the towel. This Mohammed cannot move the Mountain !!

Currently my s/w toolbox does :
    A) Choose a pre-equaliser from about 20 library parts, see it graphically
    B) or Set pre-equaliser with full GUI slider controls
    C) Choose a post-equaliser from about 20 library parts, see it graphically
    D) or Set post-equaliser with full GUI slider controls
    E) See/Set Clipper distortion graph from about 30 different library parts
    F) Set \"Magic Gain Variables\" for internal clipping stages

What it does not do :
    A) Play with effect settings ( Needs Xedit for that)
    B) Play with Cabs (Needs Xedit for that)
    C) Immediately download a change into the GNX3000 ( needs Xedit)
    D) Hyperwarp(c), my idea of a warp with negative coefficients
    E) Error check ( It is possible to write illegal patches that result in silence or too much distortion from the GNX. I have no data of range of valid settings for some of the variables)

So yes, the toolbox does deliver over 6 million tones as promised. I could recreate each and every patch posted in the forum so far just by using my library parts (every time I found a patch I could not create, I added it to my library)

But it takes a bit of work. Its a bit hard to use, as it was developed just to test some concepts, with no cool help file or intutive front end. Also, more than half the tone comes from the FX settings while what my toolbox does is create/see/change the Amps only. Hence I call it a Tool box.

Its written in XL2002 and 2003. It does not run on XL97 and 95 as there was no XML support in those days. It can be easily written to work on XL97.

This toolbox would be of interest to the tone purist, the deep editor type of guy, The guy who wants one of a kind tone, the guy who has a great starting patch but cannot tweak it to whats playing in his head, DSP hobbyists. It might be too much for those who just want to download a patch and play away.

So what I am going to do is post the current version of the Gene Splicer toolbox utility free in the next few days. Anyone know of a good site to post this 1MB XL file ?

PS: I guess it is allowed to speak about (free) utilities as there is a forum for that. My further comments will be on that forum.
  • that toolbox sounds sweet!!

also a patch swap function so you dont have to overwrite one patch just to put another in a certain order eg for gigs.
