Wannabe

For christmas my kids bought me a Ovation and an SG 8) ...Then said if I wanted to keep them I had to write them a song  ..so here's one for my girls. My buddy Gregory Pecker was kind enough to play bass and I am to blame for the rest.

  • Good job ! I think your kids should let you keep them !
  • ODB, so cool.... 8) I think they did good on those purchases, and it sounds as if you seem to know what to do with them.

Those licks on the SG sound great, and the Ovation is ringing out too. The mix sound well balanced, no instrument seems to overwhelm the other. Are you using G3456's GNX-3 patches?

Just curious ODB, have you ever listened much to Phil Collins?

Keep up the good work.
  • Thanks DrMike, I really appreciate the feedback.

    Q: Are you using G3456's GNX-3 patches?

Ya, I have the \"basic series\" for my gnx3. I used the Jeff Beck and DGwall2 patches with the Epi SG and went with a direct patch with some chorus for the Ovation.

Q: Just curious ODB, have you ever listened much to Phil Collins?

I don't think anyone could escape listening to Phil Collins in the 80's he was so overplayed on all the radio stations...I was a fan of early Genisis \"and then there were three\" one of my favorites back then.
Both Phil and Peter are great songwriters with great vocal charictaristics.
wish I had a tenth of there talent.
  • Fantastic song. Thanks for the cry. My daughters live with their mother, and I never get to see them. That's where I wannabe.
I have tried to write them a song before, but it never comes out as well thought out and loving as your song.
Can I put this on my rio so I can listen to it?

    Thank you,
    Dave
  • I thought it was great. It's not often that I listen to an entire song, but I listened to the entire thing!!! I usually listen up to the end of the lead passage, but this time I hung in there, and was glad I did.

The Ovation sounds fantastic. Makes me want to go home and plug mine in
    :D

The only thing that struck me as strange was the beginning of the 2nd verse:

You went to work, and you had a hard day.
But you're stuck in traffic anyway.

I know I'm probably way off base here, but the second line should complement the line before. The word \"But\" makes it sound like it's contradictory.

Maybe come up with a second line that bridges the gap between \"hard day\" and \"it's never gonna end\".

The following line is \"hokey\" but something like:
Now your stuck in homeward bound traffic delays (I know horrendous :D )

I'm just trying to assist, not step on any toes.

Again, great song. I really liked it.

Hey not stepping on any toes here I appreciate you taking the time to listen.
I always see a movie going on in my head while I am writing lyrics I sometime write only part of the idea I have in my head.

\"well you went to work and had a hard day ...BUT ... instead of being rewarded for that you are stuck in traffic with all the other loosers and your about to blow your top until you start thinkin of your family and how they might not want to see you on the news arrested for road rage tonight and you pray to the lord not to let you kill that F#@k in the far left hand lane
... thats where the \"but\"came from. your way actually makes sence...I seldom do. again thanks for the advice and your ears 8)

  • Well, I guess I am the only one here who listens to all the songs from start to finish that are posted in the forum :D

But when I like something I listen to it more than once. I have listened this one 7-8 times already  What a sweet melody, enjoyed every second of it, I liked the change of feel at 2:00 right before the solo.

I liked the sound of the drums too, I'd be curious to know what you used.

    Congrats! :):)
  • Thanks so much for listening guys and all the kind words.
