sorry im new to recording with pc's
I'd suggest an audio interface. Firewire or usb. I use an Ozone... with a shorted out headphone socket, but there are others to choose from. The GNX3 recorder is not gonna do your music justice all by itself anyway. PC recording is the way to go. SPDIF vs analog? Whatever. Just plug it in and record it. I have recorded my GNX3 right to the line-in on my pc quite a few times. It works.
well this is hard to take in for me
The no-audio-via-MIDI horse has been beaten to death many times on this forum... it can barely turn over in its grave, if it were ever even afforded one. For instance, back in January of this year, http://www.guitarworkstation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1385&highlight=midi+connection+editing+patches:
wickerman: \"what leads will i need and where can i get them? if i was using a smatmedia card, would you be able to do everything with that instead of getting all the leads, like could u download patches to it ?\"
iliace: \"MIDI connection is only for editing patches. You can get a card reader (nowadays you'll mostly find bargains on many-in-one type deals) that will let you read a SmartMedia card. Alternately, you can hook up the analog outputs from your GNX to your audio interface and record directly onto PC using the included Cakewalk software. The other PC option (or, rather, general studio option) is using the digital output - you'll need a digital input either on your PC's motherboard or your audio interface. If your input on the PC or interface is of ADAT optical type, you'll also need a converter to go from GNX's coax digital output to your optical interface input.\"
