new guitar player, a few tracks

Howdy to all. I'm new to this forum. I've been playing guitar for about a year now, and I've had the GNX4 for about a month. I'm not sure my playing is worthy of being posted here, I've never played for anyone but my wife (who always says kind things regardless). But, I need some constructive criticism to help me move along. I've been listening to the music posted here and YOU GUYS ROCK! I feel a bit awkward posting this stuff, but here it goes. I have put up 8 files at:

or you could just check out this one tune (I think it's the best of the 8 )

  • I listened to JoansBlues. Nice overall feel. I think bending or sliding into some of those notes as opposed to fretting them would help add more feeling to it.
  • Thank you ednrg. That's just the kind of thing I'm looking for! I know it's got to be hard listening to student efforts, but I need feedback in order to know what direction to head, or where I might need more study. I don't mind that some one may be critical. I just hope suggestions such as yours will be part of the package.

I read a posting about bending with more accuracy. That got me to practicing my bends with more care and attention to detail. In my next effort I will incorporate your advice.

    Thanks again.
  • hey jscott i like the sound on this..good clean mix. Along with bending (which isn't learned overnight) vibrato is also very important. Still i liked this tune \"Joan's Blues\" and keep it up.
  • Thanks Riffmaster! I am very happy with the feedback I'm getting, it's very helpful. And I can't tell you how much fun I'm having learning. I look forward to improvements and further postings.

None of this is learned overnight. But who would want it to be over that quickly? This is a blast!
  • That's some pretty good picken'..
Especially considering you only got a year in...
    Progressing nicely....
You might want to start working on scales some more and possibly some theory as well, to see how everthing relates to each other...
    Really good start...
Trying to think that far back and I think that after a year I was just starting to play Venture's stuff..
    Progressing nicely...

  • Thanks Tal Rules! I'm glad to know that I've moved along at reasonable pace. I'm kinda in the boondocks here and, well let's just I don't see many folks. No musicians. So it's been something I've wondered about. After hearing what everyone has said, I'm very encouraged and have begun to work even more obsessively.

This forum is very helpful. Glad I ran into you guys.

And I know I keep saying this, but I've listened to all of the music related to the last few weeks postings and I am fully blown away by how good you all are! This forum is worth the visit just to hear the tunes!
  • I think I may have a few improvements worth listening to. Let me know what you think. And thank you in advance for your help!
