  • I resemble those remarks.... :lol::lol::lol:
  • It was... nice... and interesting... ;)

Hopefully what I said didn't step on too many toes. Most people ask for feedback on their music. I gave it in a way that was intended to be helpful... You know, like \"constructive criticism\". It seems like what I said was upsetting to some people for some reason. Appologies to any that I offended.
  • <div style="displaynone">fiogf49gjkf0d</div>Nah. Not Upsetting friend. It was just the general critique about no-one inparticular... It was a real helpful tip as you intended... but when i read it... it was impossible to tell who you were talking about ? And not naming names was very kind of you, but the participants in this forum will never know precisely who needs to improve which aspect of their playing ??
My comical reply was because we are all learning and we all need to improve... but the positive people who only say, \"that was nice\" are just offering encouragement to those of us who post some of our GNX creations...?? - whilst we are learning.
Further to your comment and to balance our discussion ... (i hope you understand i really was just sitting at home having a chuckle at your post
) I heard some of the posts and thought .. yep you have a point!
Maybe the comical reply was the result of a couple o' reds tooo many but... i felt your comments would be more useful if you took a gently softly approach to the actual poster-person and at length... told them where they were bending/timing/phrasing incorrectly... gosh ....that would take a better man than me to do that... because i am guilty of all of the above musical sins....plus countless others if he/she is listening.... bwaa ha haa
    Hey Dr Mike.
I hope we're on the same wave friend... no criticism of you... just a comical poke at the offering you made, and maybe i should be a little less outspoken too !
I reckon, post the critique directly to your gnx buddy....

Now to critique my own... to show i'm just a joker....
The guitar sounds like Donald Duck farting....
The drum loop shows lack of dedication to the product...
    And the bass is sloppy....
i wish me all the best with future posts... keep up the good work krafty.
  • HEY , can you post that patch for the \"Donald Duck Farting\" tone ??? Hmmmm...?...Please !
  • Kraft,

When I read your post I could tell that there was humor in it. I just want to be certain not to offend anyone. After all, when a person puts themself into a song, it can be hard to seperate out the criticism of the song from a possible (though entirely unintended) criticism of the person who wrote it.

My art/music is an extension of myself and sometimes it can be hard to take a step back to listen to criticism even when it comes from the best of intentions. Boy do I remember how crushing it was to have juries in my music program where you had to perform in front all your teachers. You'd finish what you considered to be the best performance you'd given yet only to have them disect it and critique every aspect of it. It gave me thicker skin and the ability to learn from such criticism. But I remember how it was when I first started. And, as you mentioned, many on this forum are just starting out.

I didn't mention anyone cause I'm not it's necessary. I think bringing some attention to the problem should be sufficient for any out there that are really trying to improve. Those that have problems bending and never paid attention to it before might now do so. Those that have problems and know will hopefully work to improve. Those that don't care won't do either and so I see no need to offer them something that they don't want.

However, since you, KRAFT, have so graciously offered to have your music deconstructed and critiqued with abondon I'm sure we could all oblige you with that ! :) ...just kidding !

Whoa.. just read my post... sounds so serious and it's not meant to be. ;)
  • <div style="displaynone">fiogf49gjkf0d</div>Dr

I think criticism both good and bad, is very helpful for a musician. They must have a thick skin, especially if they are playing to an audience. I myself have appreciated your comments.
Just make sure you are not the overweight doctor who tells all his patients they must go on a diet.
    Follow your advice as well.

    Thanks Dr!

  • I try not to be. I practice my ass off. When I was more serious it was 10-12 hours a day. Now that I have a \"real\" job it's less. When I practice I always spend a percentage of time just working on proper phrasing and technique. CHOPS ! Gotta have them chops TIGHT !

I'm no Hendrix or Satriani but I try. :)

Eric Johnson has a really good video in which he talks about his techniques and technique in general. Even though it's an advanced video He spends some time on little things like pickinng (he picks downward all the time in order to maintain constant tone from note to note which I thought was interesting in contrast to alternate picking technique. I tried it and noticed that there is a difference in tone...) and bending which he really just says that you need to practice bending froom 1/4 to 2 1/2 steps in order to master it.
