  • How do you like the 7-string MusicMan? I'm looking to get a 7-string and that's one of my choices.
  • Nice job Dave, not a big DT fan, but just wanted to say listening to you play as inspired me to play again after 12 years with no inspiration. thank you
  • (Bows down and salutes)
Great great! :D:D Big fan of DT! I am very impressed with your work and the other songs on your website as well. As a constructive comment I'd like to point out that especially drums and to a degree the bass too can use a little bit more volume as the guitars are standing out more than the other instruments- since the rest of the instruments have also been played as well as the guitars, don't hide them :)

I am also very impressed with the keyboard work.

Do you mind if I ask what you used for the drums?

    Great work!
  • Thanks, I appreciate it. The Musicman is a very nice guitar and I am pleased with the quality of it. It was pretty expensive, the only downside.

I did another recording of this song today since I noticed some of the bends on the solo were supposed to be 1/2 step, and I played them full steps. I was sightreading the tab while I played, so I guess I overlooked this. Hopefully it is a little more in tune this time.

I found the backing track on the net, it had drums, bass and keys together. I suck at mixing, and I always tend to boost the volume for the solos :)

  • Excellent Job Dave...as you can tell I 'm a big DT fan !! I remember how long it took to learn leads from Another Day and we also covered Metropolis (months of preparation) for a bit. That stuff is tough. I have great respect for any guitarist who can play that with articulation ! Of course it's a bummer when you get a few responses from musicians after covering prog Live.. but then you get screams and yells for Tommy Tutone...there is no justice!

    Keep it going!!
  • Metropolis...I guess it is PartI from the Images and the Words album not PartII.

That's one tough song. If you recorded it please share with us...

Thanks. Your patches have helped inspire me to play more, and record a ton of covers from a lot of the bands I dig.

I'm a Petrucci fan, though I sometimes dislike his sound when he plays a million miles an hour in some of his leads. I'd love to attempt another DT cover, but this song was nice and short and not too complicated (pretty rare for DT). I got ripped apart on the Petrucci message board over this cover, guess you can't please the diehard fans. No big deal to me, I just record these for fun and don't try to make my playing 100% perfect on these covers.

I'm going to start a new thread in the general area about mixing, maybe you guys can help me out with my mixes. I might even be able to host the complete bundle of Cakewalk PTP files on my site in case anyone is interested in trying to mix the songs for me :)

  • Great tune Dave Z, 8)
Mix, chops the whole nine yards... 8)
    Geez that's so nice..
After listening to your other stuff wouldn't have hardly anything less than this stellar performance...
    Really, Really, NICE... 8) 8) 8)

    See ya,
    Tal
  • I think taking care of the bending issue which was somewhere after 2:00 mins nailed it. I don't see anything wrong with this song so that it deserves any bashing at all, even from diehard fans.
    Keep posting!
  • Dave I just wanted to say excellent work there! I am a big DT fan, but more than DT I am really pleased that you covered that Death song. I was and always will be a big fan of Chuck S and crew and am glad that thier stuff isn't forgotten. Keep up the great work. I would love to get the settings you made for that Death guitar tone if you wouldn't mind e-mailing them to me if you get the chance. I have the 3000, but I am sure I can make something just like it. Great work. Back to your page now so I can listen to more. :D

Thanks, I'm a big death metal fan. I would cover more death metal songs, but it's hard to find backing drum tracks for this type of music. I don't recall what patch I used on the Death song as it was one of my first recordings. I'm sure I got it from the old digitech site patch download area, since I don't create my own patches. It might have been based on an ADA MP1, but I'm not 100% sure. Sorry.
