So how long does it take to pick a winner?

I was just wondering... how long does it take to pick a winner?

The Digitech Broadjam Contest ended in November... it's almost Febuary.

Come on... Let us know who won!

  • That does seem like a long time.. :?
The longer they put it off the longer they have to pay off. :? .

    By the way,

Well that's a GREAT compliment commin' from my favorite Jazz Guitarist!

  • Hey, that one flew right by my head... Musta missed me by less than an inch - LOL... Link to the broadjam contest? Yeah, I admit it, I am too lazy to look for it - LOL...

    Cheers,

    T
  • Hey thanks KT... Sorry for my lazyness... I'm just lazy... Not always, I'm in a one of those phases at the moment. Could be the age or something - LOL...

    Cheers,

    Thomas
  • HaHa! We all get that way sometimes!

It's when it's all the time that you've got a problem! LOL

I don't know why they still haven't crowned a winner. I realize it would take a while but they should be through the intrys by now. Don't you think, or am I just being impatient?

I don't know why I am so anxious, I didn't even post anything myself. I did do two songs (Allied Assualt with Armada1 and Black Water with ODannyboy) that others posted. But I doubt \"my\" guitar playing would make the final 3.

Just wanna hear who they deem Digitech King! 8)

    FWIW

  • Hey KT,

Sad to say the lazyness is indeed becoming more frequent - LOL... But I swear I will do something about it as soon as I feel less lazy...

Well it looks like (at least according to the link) that due to overwhelming response it will take a little longer to pick a winner. The judge want to make sure he is rigorously listening to every single contribution before a winner is chosen...

As for your playing, dude you blow me far, far away - LOL... Allied Assult was a cool collab 8)

    Cheers,

    Thomas
  • Thanks for the Comps!

Dave (armada1) is great to work with! Would do it again anytime!

Have you tried Jolt Cola? That could help with your little problem... LOL
Or Crack! LOL! Just kiddin'! Don't go there!

Im sure it could be quite tedious listening to all of the entrys, but come on... I'm sure he aint doing it for free! There's something in it for him!

  • Yeah, he'll get a brand new GNX3K for free ;)
  • Yea, but I doubt Digitech would throw in a copy of the Super Series patches!
    LOL
  • Maybe that's what's taking so long. Superseries negotiations - LOL

\"I refuse to listen to one more of these guitar shredding songs unless you throw in them Super Series Patches for free!!!\" :P
  • LOL what is going on here  Hey sup guys....man I have been Busy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • DAVE!
    Sup buddy?
Nice to see you around here again! 8)

Thomas, you could have very well hit the nail on the head! And I have a feeling that \"Superseries negotiations\" could take a Super Long Time!

    LOL
    KT
  • the winners are up on Broadjam's site!
  • Who are those people? They don't even say how they use the GNX3/GNX4....

Ok the second guy sounds like he did use a GNX4.
  • Well first let me say congrats to the winners.

Second let me say... I'm glad they finally pick em'! LOL!!!

Third let me say... I'm not a very patient man! LMAO!

The First place song is nicely produced. Not my type of music, but nicely produced all the same.

The Second place song was my favorite of the three. Great tune, Great lyrics, Nice job Mike Weeks! WooHoo!

The Third song... Maybe it's just me (it often is) but what does the trumpet or what ever instrument he's playing have to do with a \"Guitar Workstation\"? He is obviously a talented musician, but I (personally) do not think this should have been the third place winner in a \"Guitar Workstation\" (please note the key word in that sentence was \"Guitar\") Contest.

Vladimir Galaktionov (please note i copied and pasted that name in cause there is no way in the world I would have been able to spell it on my own) if your reading this, please do not take offence. I think you a great musician and I am by no means trying to discredit your abilitys. You are a very talented man.

I just thought this was a \"Guitar\" Workstation contest. I (Again Personally) just assumed these would be guitar songs since that is what the product is designed for. Guess not...

Again Congrats to all the winners, and too Mike Weeks, dug the tune!

    IMHO

  • Congratulations to the winners! My money would have been on DrFloss and ODannyBoy to get at least one of those spots, but who the heck am I? :D
    When's the next contest?
  • KT nicely put and I agree with A/C too. So congrads to the Vixen with the sexy voice. Made my hair stand up :o Along with %$$^@%^$. Sex sells. No offense to the trumpet guy but ?????????? Mike Great job.... good hook and it sounds like a guitar workstation.

DID OZZY JUDGE THIS!!!!! and is he using again....I only entered because of the Oz man. Was hoping some metal would of got a go at it.... Not some purple haired A&R POP freak.

I heard alot of entries that were up in quality that had a chance to take the contest.

With that said congrads to winners

    Peace
  • Well, it was a song writing contest and the winning song was a good one, albiet a lot more \"pop\" sounding than what i would have initially expected, but with Mark Hudson's current involvement with X Factor and as a producer allround i sort of suspected this one to take it. I don't think Mr. Hudson did the wrong thing here in terms of a producer. This guy has had a very successful history and i really respect his work with Ringo, (both with the band the Rounders and with the producing many of his albums). Okay enough kissing up.....

The second song was my favorite too... (but maybe not quite as \"marketable as the first one). It also shares the same song title as my favorite Dylan song! Big Lebowski brought it around a second time. 8)

The 3rd one i actually dug quite a bit too. It did really deliver in terms of using the GNX uniquely and that was, one of the qualifiers in the contest.

In the end it was the best \"free\" songwriting contest i ever entered!!! I personally got a little carried away with the number of songs i crammed on when maybe i should have spent more time polishing just a few. Who knows, though. I haven't been doing this very long but i have allready learned that one \"pro's\" set of rules will directly conflict with next pro's. Basically there is no tried and fast rules when you are creating for your own enjoyment, which is good because it keeps it fun.
I have learned that there are rules to getting signed (or even simply winning a song contest). i think a lot of us would call that selling out, but the hard / fast rules to getting airplay require it.
in short, the #1 rule to writing songs that will get airplay is to write in the current popular style, (you have to listen to the fricken radio). Writing in the acid tripping style of the 60's will not get you there.... Of course history repeats itself, question is then, how old and unmarketable will your grill be by that time?

  • WOW !!!!!! I too thought it was to display GNX usage, but yes, it's a songwriting contest.

I like the picks...the evanescence style vocs is very cool for todays pop.

Mike's tune was also very good and did demonstrate the GNX. More of a late Bon Jovi ish type appeal. Nice tune

The horn thing.. i'd go Ukelele with the DR. Maybe some ping pong balls dropping as a backing track.. and maybe some samples of burgers frying on a grill...SSSSSSSSSS ya know, for some ambience! Actually I think he should call Comedy Central and wite intros for new Anime. Kind of had a Simpsons Vibe.

I can't say much though. I record guys with all kinds of stuff from accordions, to chop sticks. One guy mic'd himself picking his teeth with a dental scraper!! I've seen some strange things get on tracks!

    Congrats to ALL winners!!!
  • I agree with the dr and Mike the sound GOD!!!!

I just am not a pop person, but the songs are good! I was hoping for a New evergrey or symphony x to emerge.

But pop rules the planet. I in no means meant to insult any winners. There mark is what they do...and what a boring world if we all were metal!!

I really dig that voice on the first song.....it is awesome. MMMMMM_MMMM

    Peace
  • well ya, i can definatly say also that neither the 1rst or 3rd song is somthing i'd listen to on any kind of basis. Too bad there were some really good kick a** songs from the regular forumites up there. This is a great place, the most supportive i have ever seen on a product forum. It would have been really cool to see one of ya'all up there. Don't sweat it Armada, the origianal video that went out made me think that Ozzy was going to play some part in it also. Hope everybody keeps up with the songs and Digitech has another contest. You can't beat free!
and P.S. thanks all for the kind words and support.
money shot is a money shot

One time, I clipped an SM11 to my collar and recorded myself gargling vowels. For loops  Wonder what that would sound like through a Marshall stack?

I personally was kind of expecting these sort of picks, from a producer of that caliber as head judge. The usage of GNX is a lot more subtle than what you find on DT soundcomm, and understandably so. This is a good reminder that everything boils down to creativity and composition.
  • I can say one of the dumbest backing tracks we ever had was a guy eating ruffles chips like a pig, mic'd through an ada flanger and Deluxe memory man. He rapped the section to \"rapture\" by blondie. Truly creative

Hey Thanks for the kind words. Good songs . I thought perhaps due to the Ozzy thing that they would have picked heavy stuff. But all the songs are very well done. Congrats to all the winners! :D

I was hoping to see one one of our regulars here win but maybe next time.
  • Are you kidding me? This is the best we can do?

Tune #2 was cool, but it seemed like I have heard it before--kinda a cross between David Bowie and ????. Plus, seemed to stay in one place a bit too long.

Tune #1, is this original? Swore I have heard it too. Topic certainly ain't original. Nice production though. Done through a GNX???

Tune #3, what the ________ is this all about?????

    Bewildered in GNX land...

  • Hmmm. Great production, but pretty uninspired. Certainly better than anything I could do, but definately not on par with what ya'll can put out.

    Next time fellas...
