if i was to get some headphones then plug them into my gnx3 would this mute the amplifier or could use the amp as well as the headphones so they could be used as monitors.

when i record to backing tracks with just drum n basss i can hear perfect but when i record over tracks with rhythm guitar sometimes it is diffcult to hear my own guitar.

That's not true. GNX3 1/4\" outputs shut off when you plug in headphones, one of the most annoying aspects of its design.

Try connecting the right output on the GNX3, get an adapter and run your heas phones from the left output. I don't see why this shouldn't work, although I haven't tried it.

It wouldn't work because you'd lose one of the channels (the right one). What you need is either a signal distribution system (headphone amp for instance), or a mixer that will output to both monitors and headphones. Another solution is duplicating one of the analog outs somehow, and plugging into an insert cable - then into a female-to-female TRS converter and headphones going into the other end. Tedious, but you could make it work.

I have digital monitors, so I circumvent this issue by plugging the S/PDIF directly into the monitors and then I don't care that headphones shut off analog outs.

Yeah, I figured it would be mono. Just got a new mixer a while back, didn't think of using it with head phones. Thanks! He may also be able to adjust the track levels. Wickerman are you using the same presets for your rhythm and your lead tracks if you are it may be hard to hear your lead when you are recording.

Well, my \"mixer\" (which is actually a recorder) has a dedicated headphone out, so I can have it going to near-fields, mid-fields, and headphones all at the same time. Most mixers I've encountered offer some kind of a headphone jack.

Yeah, I got the Behringer UB 1202 FX I love it. It has a head phone out put on it.
