No one understands my question

Okay, I've been trying to find out what the CC# is for the GNX 1 or 2 \"EXPRESSION CONTROLLER\". Not the \"VOLUME PEDAL\". On the Genesis 3 it has been set at #103. Too high for my controller to reach. #95 is as high as I can go. The GNX 4 is set at #4, perfect except I dont have one of those and I'm not planning to buy one. I asked the tech support guy at Digitech and he told me its always #7 for the GNX's........he doesnt understand either. #7 is the # for the volume pre not the expression controller.

It seems that midi is extinct for guitarists since the dawn of these \"all in one\" machines. Nobody knows how to use it anymore........it seems. I'm contemplating buying a 1 or 2 ( I wont get into why) but I'd like to know if this target is available before I buy. Its not as important that I find the CC# as much as knowing if there is even a CC# assigned at all. Mind you, if its there, and under #95, I'll find it. The GNX 4 manual tells you point blank, #4. The G3 never listed it until the latest firmware added it, along with a few other useful controllers. The latest firmware for the GNX 1 or 2 doesnt show any added CC# for anything, and there isnt any expression controller listed in either manual. :o

Sooooo, her it goes one more time:

Does anyone know if there is a CC# for the EXPRESSION CONTROLLER (not the volume control) on the GNX 1 or 2, and if so, what is it?

Tony

P.S. Are there any progamming hacker/genius' out there who know how to change what is built into these units? It would be cool to just reprogram these things to do what I want them to do.

  • It's not on the manual?

The manuals are available on the website...
  • Reading the manual for the GNX2, it doesn't have a CC# for the expression pedal.
  • AlbertA, the manual for the Genesis 3 doesnt have it either, but after the 1.4 firmware update there is now a CC# for the expression pedal, the v-switch, and a toggle switch for amp channels and tuner. All were not in the original firmware, at least not through normal midi. Possibly system exclusive, but that doesnt help me either. I think I'm beating a dead horse with this idea. Thanks anyway.

  • Oh I see...

What are you trying to do?
  • I would check with customer support to see if they can pull up a list of release notes to earlier GNX firmware updates.
  • AlbertA, what I'm trying to do is control the digitech unit with a Boss unit. No Digitech unit has the ability to send midi, only recieve. What it can recieve is also limited. From my Boss I'm also extremely limited as to what I can send. I can assign only one external parameter (up to CC#95) to a controller on the Boss. I've succeeded in doing just that, but I cant shut it off. Its always on no matter what. Thats a problem in itself. When I saw that the GNX 4 had CC#4 listed in the manual for the expression controller I though great I'll just target the expression control and program the GNX or G3 to respond to that, like it was designed to, giving me the ability to program the Digitech to have certain targets assigned or not regardless if the expression controller is moving. Three at a time as well. Not to mention the parameter values. Unfortunately, the Genesis 3, even having a bunch of new CC#'s added to these controllers, are all just out of range of the Boss. #103 mainly. # 92 was the last highest CC# used originally. Why couldn't they start there? The GNX 1 and 2 don't seem to have any # assigned to these controls probably because they're already equiped with physical controls and like I've said numerous times, midi is extinct for guitarists who like to \"stomp and play\".
I'm even going through the update 1.4 files line by line to see if I can find where the number 103 is so I can change it to 93! I don't think I should be doing this cause I dont know nothin 'bout puters! :?

iliace, all release notes for all units are listed on the Digitech website and there's nothing for expression controller or the like for anything other than the Genesis 3, which is what I've got. Its just those numbers, too high for me to use. Any programming geniuses out there know what I can do to change them?

I have e-mailed Digitech with my questions, but I'm not holding my breath. What I want to do is probably not a concern for them especially considering I'm talking about discontinued stuff in the shadow of the new GNX 3000. But we'll see.

Thanks for responding. If you know anyone with the knowhow to reprogram these things let me know.

See FORUMS at www.plogue.com for very similar audio to midi and CC threads by several guitar players. This site seems to be about orchestrial synth plugin hosting software able to manage the task. You may have to post the question directly to them for direction of study. Note the threads in General and Layout for proper placement. I believe your answer will be a generic one that will work around the brandname roadblock.

  • Very interesting forum. A bit intimidating though. I'll see if they've got some answers. Thanks.
