  • Hey, thanks man! I appreciate that someone liked it, I posted it on my blog and I got quite a fwe good responses.

I have not had the time to make a GR-20 demo yet. I will try to make one tonight if I can, the thing is I had a problem with the GK-3 (B string) pickup and removed it from my guitar. It seems for some reason it's .25 mm to close to the string and the magnet drains the sustain from it. Other than that it works fine, I'm not that great of a songwriter/composer, I got used to just playing live to much so recording for me is a little hard atm. But I will pull something off tonight.

Another problem is, my GR-20 manual somehow disappeared the first day I had it. I think I left it in a pile pf newspapers and then forgot about it, then recycled! lol, So I kinda have to guess what instrument is what, I should probably check the roland site for the .pda file. Anyhow, I'm here to stay.

    :)
  • I put up a 1 minute composition of Bach's bouree in Em.

Hopefully tommorow there will be more time to record my own improvisation.
    :)
  • I liked it a lot too. Do you need to spend a lot of effort to alter your playing style when using guitar synths? Once I thought of getting one, but I heard so much about how demanding it is to generate a good sound (don't know, I haven't tried a guitar synth- I guess you can't play it the same way you play the guitar???) I was intimidated ..

Well, it's depends on what you want to play. Certain patches do indeed change how you play a little bit, nothing to extordinary. Like, with the piano patch your not really going to play fast arpeggios because the pickup won't pick up that fast, then on other patches like the string/orchestra, you can play like that and it sounds good.

I would say you more or less have to be dead on accurate in your playing, if you make a mistake the pickup will track it as well if your guitar is out of tune and not intonated correctly.

Another problem is the pickup itself, it needs to be exactaly 1mm from the string otherwise being to close with one side of the pickup will kill your sustain, this is because of the magnet. To far away and it doesn't pickup properly. But it has an adjustment screw and sandpaper for the plastic piece if needed, other than that i think it works great.

Right now i'm messing with the Gnx3k more, soon i'll put up another GR-20 demo if i have the time this week. Kewl, -l8r
