I have seen a independent film about R.L. a couple of times on HBO. Shows the true life of a bluesman and life in rural Mississippi. (My home State) Can't remember the name. If any of you guys do, respond here and I'll try to do a search on Ebay..

Gonna miss R.L. for sure

I saw that documetary on IFC a while back. I think they showed it again right after his death, too. The name of the movie is You See Me Laughin' I got lotsa chills watching that flick. That is some real deal, hardcore Delta blues-not that Ralph Macchio stuff  Highly recommended.

  • Delta style has always been my favorite of the Blues form, and R.L. was one of the last original practitioners. The fact that he evolved the style and was open for change, earned him big points in my book. His playing bordered on the mystical at times, and he will be sorely missed.

If anyone is interested in Robert Johnson material, this is the man to listen to. http://www.rockylawrence.com/
I saw Rocky some time ago in the company of about 15 other people in a local record store, and he is uncanny in his interpretation of Johnson's songs. He is also a great speaker on Blues history and a pleasure to talk to.
  • Surely gonna be missed. He played here in Austin quite regularily.... wish i would have stepped out the door and went to at least one of his shows.
    so lame

  • Great Link Terranaut....

Took a listen to one of my favorite Robert Johnson songs \"Terraplane Blues\" and immediately ordered his album..

Rocky Lawrence sounds so much like Robert Johnson it's uncanny..

I was born in Hazelhurst Mississippi. Robert Johnson's hometown. When I go back you can still hear and see a lot of blues in that part of the world in some pretty amazing places..

    See Ya,

  • That is truley the real deal.
  • Tal, you are a fortunate man to have been in that area. I've never been there, but I can imagine the feel of the place.
Rocky does an exceptional live show. If he didn't stop to explain the various songs, tunings, as well as Johnson's life, ( all of which was appreciated ), you'd think he was Robert himself. He lives up this way, and tours up here a lot. Going to see Johnny Winter, another native, next month.
I'll be ordering some R.L. also.
