Nazareths Love Hurts What type of effects are they using?


If anybody is familiar with this song can you tell me if they are using reverb, and delay in that song, especially in the solo part. I am not to familiar with all the different effects, and that is what I think it is, but may be wrong.

  • the first effect that I can think of from that song is the deep chorus effect in the arpeggiated intro... gonna download it now and have a listen...
  • ok.. basically that sounds like a chorus with very thick depth throughout the whole song... the solo almost sounds ebow to me, or lots of compression to a slightly overdriven sound.....

    just my opinion...

  • I'm not sure either. Thats always been a song that intrigued me as well. It was on the radio a lot when I was in the 8th grade. The solo in The wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald from Gordon Lightfoot and The air that I breathe from the Hollies are solos that I always thought sounded like that to me. The 70's. I've never tried to get that effect to date but now that I think about it and ask myself, \"What effects were there in '77?\" The Ebow thing sounds about right because if you listen to closely it almost sounds like hes picking very lightly, superfast and it swells in and out. Just what you could do with an Ebow. Why don't you try using the swell effect and some superfast picking to fake it! I think the actual effects are incidental. Probabaly reverb, delay, and flange/chorus/phase. I'll have to try this myself! Thanks for the question! :)

    Guitarist Manny Charlton's pedalboard contained an Electro-Harmonix Small Stone Phase Shifter that was used during \"Love Hurts\". Additional delay/reverb was probably added at FOH, but that's the primary modulated effect you hear in that song.
