Why Not Romance? (By Tal)

Hope you guys enjoy this one. Really had fun with it and it's a hoot to jam on..

Gendre is real mellow smooth jazz. Kind of my poor attempt at a tribute to Wes Montgomery and his disciples. The main disciple of his being George Benson.. 8) 8) 8)

Link for the tune is below...

Best way I envision listening to this tune is late night, with your lady, the lights low, and a nice chardonnay... :):D

Hope you guys dig it. Performed all parts except for the drums which are midi.. 8)

I was going to post this tune originally with the remarks, \"Tal finally gives up jazz and shreds Iron Maiden, Come and Listen\" but I figured you guys would razz me to death..

See Ya,

  • Pretty sweet and smooth Tal. Didn't wait for that intimate moment with the wife but me and my 250lb office mate, grooved to it.
    his name is poopsy

don't worry we discussed it and he stays on his side of the office now.
  • What a smoothie. Nice work Tal. :D
  • Thanks D,

I'm glad you and Poopsy enjoy it.. 8)

I can only hope you're not sharing a glass of chardonnay listening to it at work.. Those damn company policies about alcohol on the job..

    See Ya,
    Tal
  • Thanks Danny,

Always a pleasure to hear from you. How's the house hunting? Just get out of New Mexico move on down to Houston and we'll put some real swamp boogie music together.. Drive the locals insane.

Seriously though, I love Albequerque. One of my favorite cities. One of my fondest memories is riding the Gondola to the top of the San Dria's mountains and having a fabulous steak dinner at the top.. Beautiful country. If you could just figure out something to do with those damn baloonists in October...

Thanks for the compliment and that really means something coming from Mr. Smooth himself. 8)

    A pleasure always,

    Keep in touch,
    Tal
  • wow that is smoooooove I love it...... I was waiting for the headbanging Iron maiden interlude to kick in though:)

  • I think this is my favorite Tal-Tune yet. Has anyone been to John's Grill (made famous in the 'Maltese Falcon') on Ellis St. in San Francisco? Great restaurant... oozes atmoshpere. Anyway, they've had a fabulous jazz player there for the last few years, and I always try to get there at least once when I'm in town just to listen to him. Tal, it could be you!
Great tone, great timing, great tune!

PS - Hey... are you in Houston? My old college roommate / Best Man is there and I stop in to see him and his family once/twice a yr. It'd be fun to get together...
PPS - Just played this thru the monitors rather than phones and my wife goes, \"Oooo... I *like* that!\"
  • Tal,

Echoing what others have said, I like it a lot. I've enjoyed Jazz since childhood; to me, it's the foundation of \"jamming\". Very nice, smooth composition you made there.

I'm just beginning to learn how to record with my GNX4. Laid down one track and it came back kind of muddy. Don't know if it's because I'm playing back through my amp effects return, or the speaker comp settings. (Learning from another thread on this forum today.) Maybe I should record using a lot more treble, anticipating some loss in the mix? Anyway, I'm experimenting but it's gonna be some time before I have anything to share.

One problem I'm having is with the MIDI drum sounds. I'll select a nice preset rythm to play along with, and most of the time the measures are cadenced with a cymbal crash that I'd like to do without because it grabs attention in places where I might not want that to happen. There's no way to get rid of that, is there? Do you know of any place where there are MIDI drum tracks available with a bit more user control?

You are way beyond me with this, and it was nice listening to your music. Hope to hear more soon.

  • Wow, Thanks guys 8)

I can't believe you missed that big maiden harmonic minor shred in the bridge Warlock.

Thanks babboey means a lot coming from you. Love your playing. 8)

Granite Head my MAN!! Give me some notice and we'll definitlely hook up when you get to Houston.. I'll get the dobro out and I'll do my poor impersonation of a blue grass dobro player and we'll have a hoot..
    :D
Thanks to you as well RaininMan. I have to admit I'm a jazzaholic as well and I appreciate your comments on the piece. 8)

    Thanks guys,
    Tal
