I actually think that both Sammy and VH were better before they merged. We all know that VH's glory days were with Roth. But many people never listened to Sammy's amazing solo albums. He also had a few slow bluesy numbers also (\"Hands and Knees\" for one).
By the way, why isn't Gary in the voting list
Hey All,
Gary who? He's not even mentioned (let alone a recording of one of his tunes) in either best of or the anthology on the sleeve of BOBW!!!! The rest of the band acts like he never existed! Like a fat, ugly ex-wife you were married to for a drunken weekend.
I would LOVE to hear DLR and the boys record one more, after all, who can deny the slide (from hard rock to much more pop candy) from 5150 on...Diamond Dave was an essential part of that magical recipe of rock and roll whoop ass!!! I wonder if they'd still have it...
First of all, I just want to say that I am a huge Sammy Hagar fan and if you asked me if I liked the DLR era or Sammy era I could not pick one because I love both. However, I did choose Dave for this poll because I would love to hear what the 2 could come up with. Dave seems to bring out the funkier side in Eddie.
Hey everybody sorry I haven't been around in awhile I've been busy with other projects and haven't been home much. But when I saw this post I have to say when I'm having a bar-b-que you need to hear the ramblings of the great Diamond Dave.

Sorry my bad. Actually I like Cherone a lot but forgot about VH4 or to put him in the running.
NASHVILLE TENNESEE 1982 Diver Down Tour.
After opening with unchained DLR walks out on stage with this long glitter trechcoat opens up the coat with 2 confedrate flags sewn under each arm ...Grabs a bottle of Jack Daniels and swiggs it down looks at the crowd and says...\" So they make this $hit here!!\" standing ovation for 7 freekin minutes.   I have never seen a crowd go wild like that since.
I saw them this summer with Sammy again . Hagar has a awsome razor sharp voice that kept the whole band glued together ...props to Sam... but Roth lyrics and mood in combination with Eddie playing ...Man that the stuff! I think They bring out the best in each other musically( mean street ,Fair warning) if not personally. Diamond Daves the Man!
hey the Dave stuff was great up until 1984, but it's 2005/6 and I've seen Daves latest- theres no way I'd want him back in the MIGHTY Van Halen, Sammy on the other hand still delivers. so my vote is for Sammy. It's also cool that his older solo stuff is getting the props it deserves
I loved Sammys early stuff too Montrose planets on fire, Heavy Metal etc...I kinda get bored with the \"where eagles fly thing\" he does but hes a great preformer and vocalist.
I think as far as making a studio album its definaley the \" DLR ingrediant\" that I miss.
ednrg:That may simply be a case of the band being more than the sum of its parts.
I think in Daves case this shows a bit more than usual but Page/Plant suffer the same fate as Paul Rogers/Bad Company Bon Scott/ACDC. Thats what I really dig about being in a band versese the solo writing and recording I am doing. I find as a singer i write with way more BAWLZ when i have great players and friends playing and writing with me. Its a chemistry thing. just my 2 cents P.s. I have a picture with Me and Vanhalen (sammy style ) at monsters of rock. I was with the Kramer rep from town giving a way the airbrushed monsters of Rawk Kramer. I got to meet all the guys and I must say EDDIE ALEX and Mike were the coolest.

I have to say, I like Sammy as a solo act, but the band lost it's edge along with Diamond Dave.

With DLR:
Van Halen (1978)
Van Halen II (1979)
Women And Children First (1980)
Fair Warning (1981)
Diver Down (1982)
1984 (1984)
With Sammy:
5150, (1986)
OU812 (1988)
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (1991)
Live-Right Here, Right Now (1993)
and 3 new tunes on the best of (200X)?
You forgot \"Balance\" 1995 which in my opinion may be some of Eddie's best playing. (Technically)
If there is to be a tour after the release of the album to promote sales, then I would want David Lee in shape and ready.
If it is just for the music, and no tour, then I would want Sammy Haggar.
