Arguably the greatest living blues guitarist around... Check out the pic's and the guys he's played with.. A veritable whos who... If he aint the greastest he's definitely on real short list...
For those who have never heard this guy a good introductory is the 2nd Winter CD.. Sit down, pop you a cool one, put on \"Highway 61 Revisited\" from the 2nd Winter CD... When you finally remember that your mouth is open in amazement pour some cool liquid refreshment down iit and replay as necesary....
Enjoy,
Tal

Rick Derringer is of the old Group \"The Mcoys\" of Hang on Sloopy fame...Rick and the Mcoys were about at the bottom of the barrel when Johnny came along and recognized a kick ass player when he saw one.. 8)
Thus the Johnny winter And album... 8)
Check him out playing with Muddy Waters on the Hard Again cd.. Talk about some old nasty, slimy gut bottom blues... whew...... and then his classic cd endtitled Johnny Winter.. Awesome... If you like blues SRV, Muddy, Buddy Guy, BB, etc... You need to check this guy out.. In fact, if not mistaken his current bass player is from SRV double trouble...The second winter album features him with Willie Dixon writer of Cream's spoonful... 8)
Enjoy,
Tal
Greatest blues guitarist? Probably not. But he is damn good.
Before I say anything else, Dig your Hunter Thompson Avatar.. Damn, everybody's got cool avatars but me
What's the opening line to fear and loathing in Las Vegas? I think it goes something like this.
\"We were in the desert. Just outside of Barstow.. When the drugs kicked in.\" 8)
You''re right Johnny Winter may not be the greatest LIVING blues man.. But when you start calling the role he's definitely on the short list...
Thanks for resoponding,
and at least you've heard of the guy.
Lot's of guitar slingers haven't...
See Ya,
Tal
He plans on hiring JW for his wedding reception next summer where I might get the chance to actually jam with the man! Here's hoping....
I would put Johnny very high on that short list Tal, as without him, it would have taken that much longer for Muddy, John Lee, BB, and others to break into the mainstream. Cheers, to the very white boy from Texas.
Yeah I know what you mean about \"Mean Town Blues\".. One of the few tunes that I learned lick for lick... I play it straight up without slide.. but to gain just a little comprehension of what that guy does on a fret board is enlightening... When I was playing the club scene down here in Texas, 100% of the time, by the end of that tune the crowd was going bonkers...
Kind of have moved on into the jazz thing now, but even in that gendre, I find myself throwing in JW licks from time to time... Really a mind blower.. 8)
MAKE SURE YOU TAKE PLENTY OF PICTURES AT THE WEDDING AND POST THEM......
Love to see some pic's of you and JW jammin.. Very cool... 8)
See Ya,
Tal
Absolutely loved his playing. Agree about him being on the \"short\" list.
His other guitar player that night was very talented and during one of their songs, played a killer solo, Johnny looked over at him, smiled and nodded, kind of acknowledged what he had done, then Johnny took over and showed who the star was that night.
If anyone reading this gets a chance to see him play, then make every effort to do so. He is truely amazing.
Im not a big fan of blues music, but I do like this guy. If he comes to town, I dont know if ill see him, but I might. That is if I can find somone to go with. Not many people my age knows who he is unless theyre a guitarist like myself.
Yeah, Hunter Thompson was the guy who invented the term \"Gonzo Journalism\". The movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is derived from his book of the same name... Outrageously the movie, which follows the book very closely, is based on Dr. Hunter S. Thompsons recollections of his road trip from LA. to Vegas and is supposedly a TRUE accounting of said trip...

I doubt Winters will ever come to my town.
