Ho! Ho! Ho!

The fine folks at GC let me take advantavatage of there holiday sale on wendsday and I got a Christmas present early...
  a ruby red Ovation!
I am stoked! I wanted a songwriting guitar that plays and recordes well and a Acoustic I could play without all my gear involved. This fit the bill very well. Sounds great plays like butter and didn't cost me ( I mean Santa) a fortune! :P Never had an ovation before so I gotta get used to the rounded bowl but I was blown away by how good it sounds both unpluged and plugged in. The neck is rock solid and stays intune like no other also the finish is so nice I really dread bashing it into whatever I inevitabley will :( I have just played with it direct to my PA using its internal preamp but it sounds awsome. Cant wait to try it through a cool GNX acoustic patch. :P

  • Sounds like you have been good this year. Those are nice guitars on all fronts. I have one too but it is a little smaller and missing 2 srtrings :P
I did get the chance to play one a couple weeks ago at an open mic for a bud who needed someone to back him up on Wild Thing.... wasn't my first choice for a song on that guitar but i will tell ya i loved the guitar, the neck fit perfect and it was loud and warm unplugged as well as plugged in too. The round back is a little annoying when sitting but standing with a strap (use it while seated too), is not an issue. My ukulele however is a pain because typically you just tuck these things under your arm and you can stand sit whatever, but the round back will keep it sliding out from under your arm. I eventually got up enough nerve to drill a hole in the bottom and screw a strap pin in there. It's weird too putting a strap on a ukulele increases to goofyness factor by 5. If i was only bigger.... humm maybe those emails in my spam folder????
  • 8) This is what I finally got. but in Ruby Red. http://www.music123.com/Ovation-CC057-Celebrity-i150394.music

DGF I had a cheap charvel that was a acoustic guitar that was way out of
balance the neck would drop down if I was'nt holding it while it was straped on. I finally drilled holes and moved the strap locks to compensate but it was funky and never the same ....I will definatley have to get used to the rounded bowl but mine is the super shallow bowl and not that big a deal. the mid and full bowl style Ovations were just to weird to balance. Not between the neck and the bridge but that big round bowls slides up to were it looks like the guitar is faceing the player a bit ....the classic \"Glen Cambell nerd position\" haha ...Ok Glen can actually play very well but on his old telivision show I allways noticed his big ole custom ovation doing this... with the shallow bowl it balances way better but the acoustic sound is not quite as nice. Thats ok with me I just plug it in and with the new electronics it sounds amazingly warm and crisp. Ok enough rambling...get out there guys and get Santa to hook you up for christmas be sure to post what you get. :D
  • Congrats on the guitar! Gotta love that Santa!

He was kind enough to let me upgrade my GNX3 with a GNX4 last week! Still diggin' in on it. Learning the differances and trying to take advantage of the added features!

The speaker compasation button Rulez! X-Edit is nice, though very similar to Gen-Edit. The USB rocks! No more waiting to format your Smart Media Card so you can take it to your computer! LOL

Got a 2 gig Compact Flash card yesterday. Gonna spend this afternoon trying to load it up with patches and MP3's. 8)

    Santa Rulez!

  • :D That Rawks... GNX4. I love the usb too. my vx400 uses xedit I like it. when I was recording in cake walk I would plug my gnx3 into the vx400 so I could record that way. I dont record with the smart media anymore Its just for looping now. I love to write with the looper.
    Santa REWLZ! :!:
  • Just thought I would update on my new Ovation Celebrity cc057.

It cost me around $400.00 (with case). And after my Guitar buddy adjusted the trus rod it played very well. after a week or so I noticed how solid it was it stayed in tune the neck was very straight and other than electronics upgrades what should be the differnce in playability from the more expencive models ovation sells. I decided a well built guitar should play as well as another no matter the price....so I decided to see just how low the action would go. For me thats a good test of how even the frets are and how straight the neck is. With me I always manage to write songs with bar chords high up on the neck thats where I was not digging my new fiddle it was just a bit high up around the twelth fret. It was my experiance in the past most affordable guitars are not that well made you need fret jobs and fine tuning to do this and it becomes more hassle than its worth.

I found when I removed the Bridge (the pickup was mounted to the botton of it so you could not shave it down) 2 shims. I removed both reasembled the guitar and it plays sooo sweet its like freekin BUTTER. Now while realize everyone might not want a low action why the heck would they shim it so high from the factory? Does this make there more expensive models look better on the showroom floor? I noticed when i played one the action was much lower from the factory than the Celbritys were. Must be a reason. as far as tone, playablity, preformance I see no reason to add them back. If there is a reason please advice otherwise if you buy one of these fiddles take the shims out and you are lovin. :D
  • I have the same guitar in Black. I got it last Christmas, and it is simply incredible. After a couple of truss rod adjustments the guitar plays amazing. I've spoken with a couple of friends that said \"I hate the ovation bowl\", but after playing it, they fell in love with it. The neck is also pretty thin, and has an \"electric\" guitar feel to it.

The extra bonus is the built-in tuner. Even though everybody has a tuner, this one is in the guitar, and it is an added bonus. You'll never open your guitar case and realize that you moved your tuner to another guitar case, and never put it back.
