  • Big.

    Size difference, feature differences.

GNX3 has S/PDIF for digital audio to computer and real MIDI for Patch and firmware management. GNX4 uses USB for both.

GNX3 you're stuck with the drum patterns they give you. GNX4 drums are midi programmable

GNX4 recorder setup allows better integration with recording software (you can start ProTracks Plus recording with the GNX4 footswitches)

GNX3 uses obsolete SmartMedia whose max size is 128MB, GNX4 uses CF that hold lots more. GNX3 extra memory cards can only hold songs; GNX4 can hold songs, patches, etc.

The list goes on. All that said I love my GNX3, and they're quite a bargain these days. But SmartMedia is getting harder and harder to find if you plan on using the on-board recorder a lot.

  • No size difference. Exact same size and fits in exact same gigbag.

Search this forum, there have been too many discussions on the subject to relist them all here. However, the guideline I offer everyone: unless you need S/PDIF, or you're on a budget, get the GNX4. There are relatively few features on GNX3 that aren't available/better on GNX4. But like rawfish, I still have and use my GNX3 - as a matter of fact, of the three GNXs I own, it's the only one sitting right next to me right now, ready to jam!

  • Huh, i thought the 4 was wider. Live and learn!

  • No sorry you're right!

    GNX3:
    Dimensions: Length 20.75\" Width 9\" Height 3\"
    Unit Weight: 8.9 lbs.

    GNX4:
    Dimensions: 21.5” Length x 9” Width x 3.25” Height
    Unit Weight: 10 lbs.

So GNX4 is a little bigger... just not noticeably enough
  • You know, I'm forced to conclude that Digitech is just a lousy company. What's more, they seem to care increasingly less about their customers and potential customers as time goes by.

Here's a page of the kind that Digitech used to have. It's not fancy-shmancy flash-driven super-animated or anything, but I wonder if all that is necessary for a page like this:

    http://www.digitech.com/products/compare/genetxfeatures.htm

What happened to that sort of thing? You keep adding new features, and yet you're not going to tell people what the differences are? Does DT really think the stupid guitarworkstation.com tutorials are helpful? Or that anyone looks at it? There's scant little useful information (not counting this forum of course), and the presentation is such that most serious consumers won't even bother reading the mumbo-jumbo flash presentation.

If I were someone at Harman responsible for overseeing DT operations, heads would roll. :x
