FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS

HEY ALL!!
heard this BT and could'nt resist recording this! 8) went for more of a live sound, so no overdubs during middle interlude  don't see the point if'n ya can't do it live  not saying we won't ever do overdubs when required to make the song sound \"right\", tho! we plan on doing TO LIVE IS TO DIE with all the overdub guitar harmonies in the near future!

  • Hey just a quick question Scotty ....What setting are you using for that metallica sound? A preset ? or a tweeking of your own ? I am using a Gibson Explorer / GNX 4 and a Marshall Valvestate Amp. If you could let me know that would be cool !
    Thanks , Mailman T
  • hey Mailman T!! thanx for listening to my covers and the compliments :P
I'm using a Jackson Kelly with EMG 81's and a peavey transtube series bandit 112. my GNX4 is set with a patch i got from the digitech patch list that reads CUSTMESA in the display. I thought it was one of G3456's patches, but now I'm not sure coz i can't find it in the list. I've been tweaking this patch for some time now, and like the sound on \"BELL TOLLS\" best out of the three songs i've posted(all three use the same one)
Man, I bet that Gibson Explorer sounds great!!! 8) I've always wanted one like Hetfield's! one of these days, i'm gonna get me one too!
  • Yeah The Explorer sounds bad ass but I would like to get some better pickups for it . Those EMG's pretty good ?? I dont know crap about pickups so I need to do some learning. Before I had a Fender Stat but it was one of the cheaper ones (mexican) then I bought that Explorer ....What a Leap in sound!!! I just bought Another Stat (USA) one of the Eric Clapton (Blackie) models and that sounds awesome! Thanks for the info man.

  • yeah, EMG 81's ROCK!!!! they run on 9volt battery and are internally grounded so no more gettin' shocked by your mic if you accidently touch your mouth to it while singin'! they are high output and very well balanced which make them ideal for MFX units! you can even make them hotter/more freq. headroom by adding a second 9volt in series for 18volts! they will handle 27volts, but 18 is the best! besides, what guitar has a cavity that can hold 3 9volts without modifying? only thing is that they will not work with regular passive pickups, so you must also swap out your neck pickup for an EMG too.

it has occured to me that i have yet to post a link to my very first recording BREADFAN! i had just got my GNX4 and had never recorded a whole song before! i neglected to set my USB levels, so it came out at kind of a low volume! also, was expieriancing probs with PTP using midi tracks... it wouldn't let me make another track to do the solo in the mid section of the song! :x still, i was able to save what i had and was happy enuff with it to post the song anyway :)
    heres the link to BREADFAN

  • i want to hear this but my sound isn't working on my computer right now. I'm sure it sounds great though.
  • Great job, scottymoe!!

Sounded awesome and the crowd participation was great also!! I know you were eatin' that up!!

\"Breakin' the Law\" was the very first song I ever learned to play all the way through. The DRUMMER in my first band taught it to me! LOL!!
That was 21 years ago. Man, gettin' old sucks!

Keep it up. You're rockin' bro!

Lee aka: Beasteau/Beasty from the old forum boards
  • hey duderman!!! it's great to hear from you again :D can't wait till you're up and runnin' at 100%!! i'd love for you to hear this tune coz i know you love and respect metallica's work as much as i do, if not more so 8)

thanx for the compliments leefoley3 :P my first song i learned was also a judas priest song, called GRINDER 8) i learned to play the intro and verse on single E string  i was 14 at the time, so it's been a long 21 year love affair with the guitar for me as well :D we might be gettin' older, but we keep on rockin' harder, eh lee? hope to hear from you soon!!!

    mightymoe!!!!
  • another classic man. you beat me to the recording of this one. Very nice. I'm just not use to hearing this \"slow\"... i'm sure you play alot faster live yourself as well... thats why i don't play with the drums anymore.. they slow me down, lol. I'm sure you know what i mean. Sounds good. I was missing the solo at the end though.. and by solo i mean random bends and whammy action. also I think the bell sound is way too loud with the rythme guitar. I think sound levels is something you just get better at the more you record. I may still record this later on myself with a friend but that'll be after our planned fade to black and of course master of puppets.
  • yo, DUDERMAN!! long time, no \"see\", man! it's great to hear from you and am glad ya got your computer rig up and goin' again :P
yeah, i know they play this faster live and so do i, but kept it close to the original speed anyway...the bell sound was already mixed with the backtrack drums and bass. this is a very drum driven song, so i didn't want the drums too low or distant. i'm still learning about mixing levels to sound good from PTP. what sounds loud in PTP sounds lower in media player... just changed my default to quicktime player and everything sounds a bit clearer, so maybe that will help me out? it's kinda tuff mixing it to media player! hopefully i'll get better at it as i go!
can't wait to hear your puppets version! 8) fade will be pretty cool too!

  • i hear ya on keeping with the true speed. i try to do that with my recordings as well. where do you get your back tracks from?
  • i go to either \"guitar BT forum\", or to \"guitar 101\"... both have a limited selection of metallica songs, so i've been looking into how to make BT's myself with all the midis i have...
there is a shorter verion of THE PRINCE over at guitar 101!!! it seems to be missing a verse, but might try to record it anyway!! :P check 'em out man, there's some pretty cool stuff at those sites 8)

    see ya!
