  • Check out Craig Anderton's Power User's Guide, it goes over using midi tracks for program changes.

Program change is key. You want to have a program change coming from the MIDI file into GNX4. Channel has to match, and the MIDI mapping on the GNX4 has to conform to what program change calls up which patch. Use \"Piano Roll\" or \"Event\" views in Cakewalk, or record the midi output of the GNX onto a midi track (program changes will be recorded) - you can then place them where you need them to happen.

Controller changes have no effect on patches. Those are within the patch, so Wah pedal or Volume is a controller. GNX4 will recognize those as well, but won't output them so you can't record them. Again, Power User's Guide walks you through doing all this.

Also review some MIDI basics, it's good to understand the different types of MIDI messages that can happen. MIDI can be very tricky sometimes.
