Behringer B2092A Sub review

Booommm, Chukkka Chunnnkkkkk DA D A D DD D DAAAAA!!

That's what Butthead would say !! Dudes...if you have the 2031A's you have to get the B2092A. Can you say Night and Day again?? This thing is just a monster!! Like I said when I first tried on a few weeks ago..It's Big..4x the size of a 2031A. the 2031A's get to do what they were meant to do..Mids and Highs...;leave the Cachunnkkkkk to the 2092A Sub ! I was just playing around with it doing \"EPIC\" and Cult of Personality with the patch VREID and man does this thing wail ! Next after playing I summed up some mixes real quick. Burned them, went out to the car to verify mix, NICE...bass was where it needed to be..First time ! I sold by Wharf's for some Genelec ( better for my HS) so I'll have those as well. But when you add it up...339 for the 2031A's, 199 for the 2092A..that's an unbelievable deal for a very very nice sounding monitor rig!! Now I have to kick my buddy off of it!! I am going to also try this on Digital Drums and see if it's better than the Roland amp for V drums. I like this even better now!! Caachhhunnkkk daddaaadddaddaaaaaa !!

Uhhhhh huh huh huh...settle down !!!

  • Thanks for this review, Mike, I'm very impressed by your opinion. Could you give me some advice on placement of this baby? I suppose it's not advisable to place it on the floor and/or in the corner, but I have no idea where else can I place a monster like this. After buying Truths there's not much space in my ministudio any more. Thanks!
  • what will my neighbours think of this thing? This is a serious question btw ;) since the 2031a's are near field monitors (right?) is this bassbox near field as well? Do I get a nice clear bass within a couple of feet and does the sound die pretty fast out of nearfield range?
  • The key to great mixing is balancing out the HF/LF mixes. Today's bassy boom mixes are about feel and placement of bass within mixes and is a little trickier with NF monitors. NF monitor bass at ear level is more difficult to monitor.

This is why final mixes are done with pro full range speakers in most studios. NF monitors give you an equivalent mix..not the actual reproduction. This is why mixes vary from location to location ie car, your home stereo etc. In an ideal audio world, all mixes, playback options would have a flat response. They don't. It varies all over depending upon the system. In earlier years there were engineers that found the biggest piece of garbage, some used old Drive In speakers. They figured if we can make these sound good, then anything would work. Yes, and No. By old standards, it had a means. Today's mixing requires a bit more due to compelexities in phase, efx, and the likes.

I've done a couple of real mixes in the last day and it is easier. High Power systems, just like PA, Good Home stereo equip allow for more headroom. That's why this unit is as loud as it is. Does it have to be cranked? No. Most with PC speakers had those little tiny things that were like uhhh iffy, then even PC makers started adding subs. Bass bins, subwoofers take the 80hz shuffle out of harms way. What I mean is most people suffer their mixes from 60-110 hz and get carried away with it there. Now your flat response has a 2-3db increase at portions of your song. Why? Because it's difficult to account for bass since it's not subtle. Variations in bass response are immediately known, unlike higher freq's. A subwoofer just like in PA rigs takes that \"iffiness\" and uses a fixed crossover to keep that range tamed. If you have to push it, you can and it will without affecting the rest of your now BI AMPED system.

This is another reason why most car systems sound so midrangy. Add a sub and what happens? The main system really never changed, you have just allowed a new means for the LF range to work within that given 80Hz. So Kicks, Bass guitars, Bass KB's sound great. You do not have to blow the doors off with a sub, but it helps you identify with bass and non subtle approach to your ears respectively.

Size requirements: Yeah it's big. I have mine located under the mixing desk about 8\" from the wall. I also have a pair of 24\" angled bass traps in the corners.

I've mixed the latest with about 3 -5watts (measured). I can hear others at talking levels (they don't scream over top of the running audio) and have mixed for about 4hrs continuous with very little affect of ear fatigue. To really check that, I mixed another quick passage and played it back in the car. It was fine. Prior to that, I was good for about and hour hour and and a half tops. Why? because the amount of power needed to deliver the same eveness of a mix. Usually I was mixing at around 12-15 watts. long term exposure limits your ability of getting ear fatigue at higher levels. the Sub helps to minimize the high pressure vol's at ear level ( which is how you point NF monitors). Other subs are out there to purch as well. This one was intended to enhance the 2031A's for home studios and does a nice job of it. A++++ for $199...it's no question of is it worth it??

  • so would this thing make your guitar sound better when played by itself? also, im thinking of buying a bass, how will it sound with my 2031's?
  • my bassist uses his through the 292, along with Yam E drums etc. It sounds really good. much better with the 2031a's.
  • ok if youve got your 2031a's plugged into the xlr ports in the gnx, how do you plug this bad in?

Looks like it has its dedicated ins and outs. So your outputs should go to this sub first and then from the sub to monitors. hope it works just as well with the 2031s. See the description below. They look BIG!

Powerful yet precise, the B2092A active subwoofer uses a high-power 360-Watt amplifier to deliver extreme dynamics with linear bass reproduction all the way down to 32 Hz, and as such is an incredible low frequency enhancement for BEHRINGER TRUTH studio monitors or any other professional monitoring system. Two long-excursion 8\" loudspeakers with deformation-resistant aluminum die-cast chassis reduce distortion to an absolute minimum, even at the highest volume levels. The B2092A features dedicated Left, Right and Center XLR inputs and outputs for all stereo and surround applications. An innovative band-pass filter enclosure design yields excellent dynamic response and linearity, while active crossovers at 80 Hz provide precise frequency band separation and minimal phase shift. You also benefit from flexible adaptation to virtually all acoustic environments via Phase and Room Compensation controls. In short: Get wall-shattering low-end kick at a price that is unheard of!
