GNX4 or GNX3000 ??

Hi, I'm new to the Guitar workstations. I'm interested in buying either a GNX4 or GNX3000. what are the pros/cons of each?? I'm looking to use it for both recording and gigging. i'm a novice at both.

thanks for your opinions.

  • I don't think you can go wrong with either. The 3000 has some updated tech that many have reported as giving you better tone / replication of amps and cabs. There are however some nice patches available for the GNX4 and a 3CD set that Guitar3456 has put together. So ultimatly you have more patches available at this point for the GNX4. They both include Pro Tracks recording software and feed audio into you computer through USB. The 3000 lacks the CF memory card which is handy for storing presets and mp3 backing tracks on but you could always do this through you laptop if you wanted to. For me i hardly ever use the onboard computer and always have it plugged into my computer so i'd probably buy the 3000 at this point, but there is still more to consider than what i am able to cover here.
    hope that helps a little

  • Thanks. I've been leaning towards the 3000, but do like all the available patches for the 4. I'm sure as time goes on that there will be plenty of patches for the 3000.

  • G3456 is doing the same patches for the GNX3k so theyll be out soon anyway. So you could probably score the GNX3k from ebay for a cheap price, learn to use the thing, then buy G3456's patches once they r released and bob is your auntie.
  • and you can always make an infinite number of your own. One thing i just noticed on another thread was that the GNX3K only has one drum kit where the GNX4 has like 8 or 9, can't remember exactly. It is kind of nice to be able to switch between kits.
  • yup! - i must admit id been saving for the GNX4 for ages - then the 3000 was announced and i got all indecisive...at the time i got the 3000 it was exactly the same price as the gnx4 (www.soundslive.co.uk) - i took the chance on the new modelling and i love this pedal, but would have liked all the extra stuff the gnx4 can do though. guess ill have to save up for the gnx5 next then  im sure the 3000 will keep me entertained till then - heck! i might even have time to learn the guitar....

i reckong theres a lot of fence sitters right now - understandably! the 3000 hasnt really proved itself yet but the gnx4 definately has - early days...

although to be fair - i record on pc so the 8track would be a nice bonus but unneccesary, i dont gig (jeez - who'd listen!) so the backing track thing is no big deal - i can use the jam along function on the 3000, the drum kits would have been nice, but ive got discs worth of acidized loops and am trying to use my own midi beats - so no biggy, the jam man would be cool to play with - but like i said i dont perfor so pro tracks will take care of most things really.

i really would like to have seen the extra assignable conrols on the 3000 though.
