Guitar and other things stolen.

So I have owned a Yamaha 302s, since the year 2000. And I also have a Fender Strat. I keep the Strat at church along with the amp I use with the praise team.

The Yamaha I kept at home along with a small Johnson practice amp. I would listen to the CD of the music we would play and practice at home.

I allowed a homeless 18 year old boy to live with our family, trying to give him a place to stay and hopefully help get him his GED. You guessed it! The yamaha, the johnson amp, and a play station two, and him are gone. Thank goodness the Strat is locked up at church. I have found out the Yamaha and other things are in the Madisonville, Texas impound in the car that was used. Seems they were stopped for speeding while heading to Houston from Dallas.

I should be able to retrieve my guitar and other things, I just have to wait for the wheels of justice to turn. :) Fortunately I have a police report filed with the Garland police describing everything.

Everyone please keep the serial number of your guitar and other things filed away and take pictures too. It's nice to have in a situation like this.

  • Stories like this make it so hard to try and help people out.
I'm glad it looks like you'll get everything back! Very good idea about filing the serial number.
  • Definitely good advice. You should also do this for your home owner/rental insurance.
  • Another one of those darn Christians!!

Hey, I hear you. I need to take pics of my eq and numbers. I leave mine on the platform all day sunday. At our church, if you don't belong on the platform, you are courted off. I.e. kids, anyone not involved in ministry, etc.

But look at it this way, when you don't press charges and keep in contact and love on the kid, he WILL remimber that his whole life. That just might be what God uses!! His ways are not our ways.

Hey! I think God just gave you a promotion!! ...and a test.

    Good luck dude!!!
  • Karma, what you do to others, all that!! If you know there in the car you know where the thief is. Press charges and get YOUR stuff. God can't save him if you save him. He has to save himself. I would call the authorities and they will let you get your stuff. Then I would press charges.  If you don't press charges.
Give him the pound he needs BRAH!! :x
  • 18 is old enough to be assaulted... as an adult. lol
  • Sorry you got your stuff ripped off. :x Had to comment for the heck of it on the kid who ripped you off after you showed him some coolness and respect.

Who the heck says Jesus wants you to let him get off scott free? There is no lesson to be learned from \" oh that ole christian guy let me go\"?

Remember the People at the temple selling things on the steps...Jesus beat the krap out of those guys for turning his father house into a den of thieves , he did not say ok guys you shouldnt do that and to prove it I am gonna let you get away with this?

I beileve the Bible says you need to respect the laws of man as well ( give unto Ceasar what is his ...etc) \"spare the rod spoil the child\" right ? thats what he is a child who needs to learn repect and the value of others trust .

ya so just let him go kiss him on the check (or turn it whatever) and he's all of the sudden going to become so impressed with your Kindness that his whole life just turns around ? NOT!

Hey I have a strong faith as well but I do not believe in getting taken an then just rolling over and hopeing the kindness and grace of Jesus is gonna just overtake this person all of the sudden because ...I just let him go.

Look at it this way Jesus let him get caught...maybe its his plan he actually let him learn from this through or legal system.

    Just my 2 cents
  • First of all thanks to everyone for their input. But the idea here was to get people to record their serial numbers and take pictures of their musical instruments and processors.

As far as the legal issues contrasted against my faith issues, well let us just say I am comfortable with my belief that Jesus is my saviour. And I can pray for the criminals as they set in their cells with \"Bubba\" day dreaming about them. They need to feel the rath of the Texas judicial system, which may be the system to not mess with. It is not the first time this young man has made a poor decision about another person's property. I took a chance; I gave him a home, a bed to sleep in, and food to eat and asked for no money. I think old testament justice is warranted in this matter.

    Everyone keep on pickin

*Uh, I don't think he \"beat \"the guys up. he ran em off and drove 'em out.

\"MT 21:12 Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. 13 \"It is written,\" he said to them, \" `My house will be called a house of prayer,' but you are making it a `den of robbers.' \"

I think he sould do what he has to do to get his stuff back, don't get me wrong on that. I guess I took that for granted... got to get your axe back!

** I see your points, but I just don't know the details, I mean, I would not put a kid in jail for a guitar. I am sure he will get it already for the CAR he stole.

    ****MIKE B

Maybe it is a TEXAS thing... ??

Hope you get all your stuff back in great shape!
  • Mike......glad you're getting your stuff back, however slowly the wheels of justice turn.......

I just went through something slightly similar...........used to play in a band with this guy, years ago, and he was a good guy, no problem......ran into him this past spring and we talked about jamming again, finally did in June....well, the gist of it is, he was looking around, or so he said, I've since found out he's a lying sack of s***.......for a guitar, and I had a perfect condition, goldtop, 93 Les Paul Classic I wanted to sell.....he says, I'll take it, pay you half in a couple of days, and the rest in 2 weeks.......I said ok, and he took it and pawned it for 400 bucks, owed me 1500, and kept coming up with excuses about why he'd have the money in just a few days, and then asked me to cosign a 5000 dollar loan, which I didn't do LOL.......but anyway, I called the cops when I found out his landlord was filing charges to get a TV out of the same pawn shop this guy \"borrowed\".........but since I'm an honest person I stupidly told the detective the truth, while the landlord said his TV was stolen..........well, he got his TV back for free and my guitar became a \"civil matter\" and I would have to get the money from him or take him to civil court........

so I ended up paying 600 bucks to get my property back.....and the idiot that caused it all has conveniently dissappeared.......don't know if I'll even be able to find him to take him to court.....grrrrrr

nice, huh, I will NEVER trust anyone again........if my mother wants to buy something, she'd better have cash LOL..........well maybe not quite that bad, but I won't be ripped off ever again.......

  • Sad world when you can not even trust former band members or get ripped for helping others out.

Good hint with the serial numbers though...

But well... I also never got a few back which I borrowed to others. Never something expensive like a guitar but anyways... I don't think it's good behaviour to borrow something and never give it back. Thats just so... *argh*

  • I have been tempting fate for wayyy too long now. I always lock my car doors but my Applause ukulele is always in the car where ever i go. It's the small size and portability that make it so mighty, but i know some day it's going to get my windows smashed out and go missing forever. :(
Deductable won't cover the smashed window or the uke.... just not looking forward to that day. A small loss compared to some of the other stories but sometimes it's the sentimental value towards both the gear and yer fellow man.
    sorry mate it sucks

  • I made the statement \"I can pray for them while they set in their cells with Bubba while he day dreams about them\" as a joke. But that was probably in poor taste. When and IF this thing comes to trial, I truley hope they end up with several hundred hours of community service.

bjeff.. I am glad you were able to get your property back. It is a sad thing to be taken advantage of by someone you once thought was a friend.

David A. (also remembered as Dr Galactic Floss, the creator of Tiki Man).. aren't you worried about the heat build up in your car warping your uke?

Jesus Rules.. I truely appreciate your veiw point, and I agree Jesus did not beat the crap out of the people in the temple. One thing though, I don't think I stated that I stated a car was stolen. I did say \"in the car that was used\" however that car was not stolen.

Hopefuly I can get down to Madisonville, real soon and retrieve my things. Everyone please record your serial numbers, take pictures, and store the hard copy information in a safe place. Computer data can be lost too.

    keep on pickin

Thats cool everybody has there own interpitaion of the bible but come on guys someone screaming and running after you and smashing over your table full of stuff IS NOT a passive responce. Thats the point I was trying to make. Jesus was not always a passive person he became angry at times. and IMHO its OK to hold someone reponcible for there actions. Thats just my opinion of course just trying to show some support for you wanting to hold the person accountable for there actions Thats all I was trying to say

not trying to make this a religious topic there are plenty of other forums for that 8)

so lets all get our serial numbers for our stuff recorded somewhare safe. you never know this could happen to any of us. perhaps thats the real point.
  • Mike B:

Hmmm, I guess I was to busy being a Pharisee. :)

As I reflect on this, you know, it's easy for me.. I am not the one who got ripped. I know you were kidding about Bubba.

I will do all I can to help, i.e. I'll talk to dad about it...

    Have a good un'
  • O Danny: Yo, good post. I agree.

Man, I need a digital camera!
  • David A. (also remembered as Dr Galactic Floss, the creator of Tiki Man).. aren't you worried about the heat build up in your car warping your uke?

ha! it's D. Alexander, but yeah you got it right the tiki guy. I am / was worried about the heat destroying the instrument initially but it hasn't seemed to bother it.... or alternativly this Texas heat is also doing a number on me and i'm just too sensless now to know the differnece!

  • Hmmm..... sorry D. Alexander, don't know what made me think the \"D\" was for David. Still enjoy your songs when you post them.
  • Hey that's cool, officially my name isn't \"D.\" either. i always liked David better than Don, but i guess dad wanted me to grow up strong, and he knew he wouldn't be there, so he went ahead and named me a name that sounded like a duck, or a time a day, or a chick...
but if i ever have a son i'm gonna name him, Jack or John er.... blah blah blah
