Hello All

I could use some input here. I am doing a quote for a portable sound system for the local school district. They do board meetings at different locations. I need a speaker for the bid that is probably 12\"x1\" - 90*x 40* or 50*, as small as possible, pole mountable, sell price around $600. This system is about spoken word only...I am looking for vocal intelligibility. The system don't have to \"bump\". The client insists on non-powered speakers. I don't have good luck with JBL at this price point. EAW has difficulty getting product from China to my warehouse door in a timely fashon. And last but not least, I do NOT own a table saw.

Any thoughts?

Yamaha Passport? Stand adapters needed though.

The Alto \"egg\" would be good but I have heard that since some of the electronics went to China they have become hit & miss.

I got the X 12HP and an XTI amp for processing for a guy and I love them .. and they are LIGHT... here is the speaker:

Them and a small powered mixer should be good..

They took minimal EQ .. sounded very good without ANY processing.. but cleaned up nicely...best thing.. I can hold them out at arms length!

Thanks. And I'm not far behind you on Bose and JBL although VRX sound good in a small venue but are not suitable for tight budgets. And then there is VERTEC but they are still not usually the first choice on anyone's tech rider.

I wasn't impressed by the VRX... my son was house EE at a high end club with 5 per side and I didn't care for it...they had 728 subs.., and they were ok for front loaded 18\" subs, but the VRX monitors SUCKED major! My 15\" X 1\" NEO monitors blew them off the stage... in fact, mine were louder, clearer, deeper... and weren't on fire on the same stage for Vince Neil! (colossal PRICK)

Oh and BTW the X 12 HP with Xti 1000 with DSP was about $600... sounds SOOOO good!

I'm guessing with 5 VRX per side, there was a balcony or 2nd story involved. I haven't used them much indoors and can see possible issues there. They have a lame array method and you can't really focus them.

I got tied up today with a show prep and never had an opportunity to research everyones speaker suggestions. Tomorrow the show loads in and runs Saturday and Sunday....Cinco de Mayo Festival. Olay. I'm not going to get a chance to research speakers until next week. Bummer.

My internet search came up with Yamaha Stagepas or Fender Passport but not Yamaha Passport.
