Auto Eq isnt effective for certain frequencies?

Somewhere I read that out of the 160Hz - 700Hz range the AUTO EQ is useless and it should just be done by ear.

Can someone clarify this?

That would be specific to the \"indoor\" use of the auto EQ, and is somewhat a generality... depending on the room. the problem is reflected sound in the HF and modes and nulls in the LF... but do read... especially Mike Kovachs white paper.
