Questions about CSG-544 ?

Hi,

I'm playing with the CSG-544 SIP system and I have two questions about it if some of you are familiar with it :)

-> Why does it have both a LAN and WAN settings unless there is only one Network port on CSG ?
-> How to add a regular SIP provider (Callcentric for example) in trunks ? as there is only 4 predefined ones and no access to SIP regular settings !

    The Network Port is the WAN, the IP Phones ports are the LAN.

    Excepted that if I setup a local IP on WAN port compatible with my LAN, I can't access the unit through the WAN port, I need to plug a cable in one of the LAN ports for IP Phone !

    There is a configuration option in the CSG-544 to enable the web interface on the WAN port, it is a security issue.

    Yep I have seen that but it doesn't work :( I can't even ping it !

    The WAN and LAN ports on the CSG can be used in a number of different ways. The CSG can act as a completely self sufficient phone system, providing routing, DHCP and other network services. When the CSG is being integrated with an existing network that likely already has all of those services, it is possible to use either the LAN or WAN ports. If using the LAN ports is desired, you can essentially turn those ports on the CSG into a network switch by disabling DHCP and not using the WAN port (which effectively disables routing).

    Regarding ping, most routers disable answering ping by default as a security measure. Accessing the services of the CSG via the WAN port is possible via configuration options in the administrative interface.

    Thanks for your detailed explanations, it would be great that manual of CSG be as clear as your explanations, unless it's too late, I gave up on that product and used an other one ;)

    You might find more details looking at the Dgium Asterisk appliance manuals. I believe the are just re-branded by AMX with slight mods in the gui design.
