RS485 communication help please

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to control a Panasonic camera from a NI-2100 via RS485 but the problem is, neither myself or the cabler understand the diagrams as we haven't worked with 485 before.

Does someone mind helping me?

If you could tell me which pin to solder where that would be awesome!

Here is an explination (excuse caps please);

PANASONIC (RJ12, stepped up to RJ45 using an 8P to 6P adaptor)
Pin 1: n/a
Pin 2: Tx(B)
Pin 3: Tx(A)
Pin 4: Rx(B)
Pin 5: Rx(A)

NI-2100 (RS232/485)
Pin 1: A (strap to 9)
Pin 4: B (Strap to 6)
Pin 5: GND
Pin 6: B (strap to 4)
Pin 9: A (strap to 1)

    The Panasonic pinout implies RS-422. Are you sure it's 485?

    You should really invest in some of these:
    http://www.easyadapters.com/products.php?cat=8

    Especially if you're going from one pin out to another and throwing RJ14's and 45's in the middle. Something so simple drives me freakin batty so I use these adpaters and I leave them in permentently.

    Also make sure you set the dev's port for 485 ENABLE in its online event handler.

    Otherwise the pinout you posted looks simple but throw in those RJ45/14 adapters and everything starts crissing and crossing.

    If it is 485, then I would guess all A's tie together and all B's tie together.

    Yea, except shipping to Aus is going to take a while :( oh well, I'm going to make one up in the meantime thanks for that!

    Yep, got 485 enable :)

    Anyone having this issue;

    For an NI, pins are as follows;

    1 RX- (cable to pin 9 on the other end, aka "strap")
    4 TX+ (to pin 6)
    6 RX+ (to pin 4)
    9 TX- (to pin 1)

    I do need to double check this Monday but this seems to be right ;)
