MVP-900i in a coma

I have a new MVP-900i in my office that was working fine for the last month up until this morning.

The TP dropped offline and doesn’t show up in the online tree and the screen is completely black as if there is no power. However, the TP is plugged in and the little blue LED at the top right corner of the panel is lit so I have to assume it’s getting juice. But other than that LED being lit the panel is completely dead and unresponsive.

Has anyone seen this happen before?

    Yep, multiple times.

    You can't shut it down by holding down the bottom capacitive buttons. There's a reset button hiding behind where the stylus slips in that will reset the panel if you hold it for a couple of seconds.

    Here too. I actually pulled one from the job that died and was about request an RMA when it came back to life and has been fine since.

    I've also had issues with them locking up when I did TP files transfers while remotely connected (VPN to remote network) and VNC'd into the panel. They don't like having a VNC connection when they go into a reboot. They usually don't come back and you have to physically reboot it to get it back. Other times you just loose the user pages.

    They're pretty flaky if you ask me.

    I just tried the reset button several times and up to 15 seconds but still nothing.
    It's just plain dead except for the blue LED.

    Anyone got a set of defibrillator paddles handy?

    I don't recall, I may have opened it up and disconnected the battery when was dead dead. The VNC lock up I could get to the setup page to reboot.

    Since I couldn’t get the reset button to work I just let the battery die.
    When I plugged the TP back in this morning it booted back to normal.
    The power settings are set to Standby=Off, Shutdown=Off, and Sleep=2 hours.
    I don’t know what caused the comatose state.

    I have had the same problem this morning.
    Revived the panel by disconnecting/reconnecting the battery.
    But now i don't know what to say to the customer, and how to prevent this from happening again.

    MVP Black Screen

    Have a look at the cache memory settings and get it to clear regularly. This has been a problem with previous MVP screens. I have had this problem with MVP 5150, 5200 and 43x screens. The lastest firmware upgrades has fixed this problem.

    The MVP-900i in question is running the latest firmware (v2.53.24) that is posted on the AMX web site so I don’t think the problem has been fixed yet, at least not in my case. Is there a hotfix available?

    I never changed the cache defaults or even thought to look at it. What do you use for cache settings? My Image Cache Settings are set to:

    Flash Cache Size = 0 MB
    Cache Expires = Never
    Image Cache Settings = Off

    So if I’m reading it right it looks like the panel is not using a cache at all. Maybe that’s the problem?

    I normally set the cache to expire after 1 day and set the size at 10 - 20M depending on the TP design. If you look in the settings page you should see how much is being used and can manually clear it.

    I will investigate more about the cache memory usage.

    Like Joe I've never given these settings much thought and since there isn't any documentation, at least there wasn't when they first appeared and I was slightly curious, to explain their importance and usage I too just leave them at their default settings.

    It's been a while since these setting have appeared and no one has really discussed them at all since so why do you change their values and where did you gain your insight, are you under cover AMX? :)

    After reading this I don’t think the cache settings were the issue as the TP file that was loaded at the time didn’t have any dynamic images.
