Anyone notice lately that they don't seem to be as reliable as in the past? We have done several jobs within the past year or two, and they just seem to keep failing. Keep getting the message that one of the batteries is in fault condition, and to switch spots. When taking them out and looking at them, they seem to be bubbled, and not like the others.
We JUST had to switch out a panel's batteries that were installed in July of '04. (8400s came out apparently in Jan of '04.) And they JUST started to fail. Could it be something with the charging bases and the firmware in them? That they just keep pumping juice to them and the older firmware docking stations do not? It's just sort of a pain since there is no warranty on them, and they're not exactly cheap.
Nature of the beast or somethings fault?

Unfortunately this seems to be the nature of the beast..
Lion batteries have a lifetime of about 1000 charging cycles or 3 years. If you put a new Lion battery into the shelf for 3 years it may also fail because of the chemistry.
Technote 763 is explaining this. -
Since lithium batteries have a time-related lifespan independent of charging cycles, it is possible too we are seeing more "older" batteries shipped from AMX, and subsequently they are failing sooner.

Ahh - never thought of it that way. Like I said - we had a job that was only about 1 1/2 old, and the batteries failed recently. Then, yesterday - a job that we installed almost 4 years ago - the batteries are just now saying they're in default condition. I don't know what the deal is, but it's quite aggravating. Trying to explain to the customer that these couple hundred dollar batteries have no warranty, so if they crap in a week - tough, gonna have to buy new ones.DHawthorne wrote:Since lithium batteries have a time-related lifespan independent of charging cycles, it is possible too we are seeing more "older" batteries shipped from AMX, and subsequently they are failing sooner.
