Anyone notice new firmware files are all listed as Hot Fix available from Tech Support? Are we being forced to call tech support just to get the latest firmware?

No, you have to call tech support to get a hot fix. "Hot" means that it was released to fix one or more specific issues but due to the need to get it out quickly it does not go through the complete QA process that a freely available web release does. Thus, it is important to have a discussion with tech support to ensure that it is an appropriate option for your specific situation. Eventually the fixes will be incorporated into a regular release but this takes longer.

You also have to go through tech support because the ftp is no longer up and you have to get an invite to AMX's activeEcho site and tech support will put the files you need in your folder.
